POHO2030 is the name of an ambitious transformation programme focusing on the area between Havířov, Karviná and Orlová.The name POHO is a shortened form of a Czech phrase meaning the post-mining landscape. In the past, this region was a major centre of coal mining, and the few remaining active mines here are scheduled to close soon.
The closure will be a milestone moment in the area’s history: it will not only affect the landscape, but it will also transform life in the region, offering a huge range of opportunities for managing development to ensure that the post-mining landscape serves local communities and is an enjoyable and positive place to live, work and visit. To coordinate this challenge, the Moravian-Silesian Region and several partners have created the POHO2030 programme, which is based on a key strategic document – the Development Concept for the Post-Mining Landscape of the Karviná Region up to 2030.
The coordinator of the transformation programme POHO2030 is the rSilesian Investment and Development (MSID).

The Development Concept was devised by Moravian-Silesian Investment and Development (MSID), a company set up by the Moravian-Silesian Region. The aim of this strategic document is to define a way of ensuring that by 2030, the post-mining landscape of the Karviná region will become a prosperous area that lives a diverse and sustainable life. We view the current situation as a starting-point for future development which will open up access to the landscape and make it an attractive location for new people and new ideas. We are committed to implementing modern, forward-looking principles emphasizing climate-neutral activities and sustainability.
When devising the vision and concept for the transformation of the post-mining landscape, MSID worked closely alongside over 30 renowned experts in a wide range of fields. Several months of work, including numerous field surveys, produced a comprehensive and fully integrated set of analyses and proposals.
