POHO Points

POHO Points offer a glimpse into the mining history and future of the post mining landscape in the Karviná region. New interactive boards, enhanced with virtual tours and audio commentaries, provide a unique perspective on areas typically inaccessible to visitors. As part of the POHO2030 project, the distinctive sites of the Gabriela Mine and Lazy Mine have been meticulously scanned. Additionally, the iconic leaning Church of St. Peter of Alcantara has been captured in this innovative manner.

The project aims to make the former mines in the Karviná region more accessible to the public while preserving their original form and historical significance.

POHO Points are a great example of sustainable transformation by repurposing unused mine carts and incorporating other recycled materials. The goal was to create new functional spaces that honor the mining heritage of Karviná.

POHO Points are strategically located at four sites: the Church of St. Peter of Alcantara (the leaning church), the former Gabriela Mine, the square in Old Orlova, and the Lodičky Dokořán space by the Karviná Sea. Each site features a map of the post mining landscape, a brief description, and QR codes that initiate an audio commentary available in both Czech and Polish.
