Doubrava basins
The area, originally built with family houses and adjacent agricultural lands, was transformed into an area of water bodies due to mining activities.
The revitalized area after coal mining now offers opportunities for educational and recreational use. To the south of the water area lies a naturally forested region, which has undergone local landslides due to mining activity. Part of the area has been stabilized but remains unsuitable for construction. There is now an opportunity to restore a lost road and create a modern and experiential educational trail connecting Dinopark with the center of Doubrava. This revitalization will provide pedestrians and cyclists with access to a beautiful and previously inaccessible piece of nature – an original route in new contexts. In LIFE COALA project, a conceptual design of the trail is being created, thoughtfully incorporating elements that enhance the area’s appeal, such as a pontoon bridge, an observation tower, or a series of walkways over the water and wetlands. The Doubrava Basins are considered a very valuable area according to current surveys, especially due to the rich presence of vertebrates, unique botany, and interesting geomorphology. Implementing such a natural educational trail will help LIFE COALA revive the landscape around Doubrava, also known as the “pearl of the post-mining landscape.”
