Sušanské Ponds
A series of seven ponds that were originally used for fish farming and summer recreation until the 1950s. However, during the coal mining period, the ponds became sedimentation tanks for coal sludge from the Dukla mine.
Today, the ponds are not only a historical remnant of mining activities in the area but also a significant natural site and a popular spot for recreation and fishing. The location is also easily accessible by bike and on foot due to its proximity to the built-up part of the town of Havířov. Additionally, it is a habitat for the critically endangered dice snake (Natrix tessellata). As part of the LIFE COALA project, a study was conducted to designate this environmentally valuable area as an attractive spot sought after by residents and visitors for leisure activities, education, and relaxation.
