Tram line

An important regional transport project aims to enhance public transport on the Ostrava-Orlová-Karviná route in the Moravian-Silesian Region through a new tram connection.

The planned railway, inspired by the historic tramway line, utilizes existing infrastructure such as the former coal railway and current or planned transport corridors. A new tram line offers a new perspectives and possibilities for future development.

This new modern 26 km long double-track rapid transit line will reach speeds of up to 80km/h outside built-up areas.

It will provide an efficient and relatively fast connection between these 3 towns, benefiting not only local commuters, but also visitors and tourists. Additionally, it will serve as a crucial link between areas of interest involved in the transformation of the Karviná post mining landscape. With modern vehicles and rapid transit, it offers an attractive alternative to automobile transport. The line could potentially welcome its first passengers traveling from Ostrava to Karviná in ten years.

The project preparation is divided into three successive stages, each with its own feasibility study. Currently, the feasibility studies for the Karviná – Orlová- Ostrava route and Orlová – Havířov route have been completed. The study for the Havířov- Ostrava route is planned for 2023.
